Hi there

Personally, I do not like searching online for terminology, but rather on my many specialized
CD/paper dictionaries (OCRized then indexed with Archivarius, along with my huge TMs)

Hi there

Personally, I do not like searching online for terminology, but rather on my many specialized
CD/paper dictionaries (OCRized then indexed with Archivarius, along with my huge TMs)

Long time ago I searched for "something" just as fast and handy as Babylon, able to
recognize the select text, then giving me the translation with a couple of click, and I found that
IntelliWebSearch served my purpose (now I switched to WinAutomation because it's easier and does many other things, e.g. managing any software/routine in my PC)

However, I quickly realized that IntelliWebSearch was designed to make Web searches, but after some attempts I figured out how using it with most of my dictionaries (even if some of them doesn't work so smoothly, due to the particular GUI)

So given that the "syntax" for CD dictionaries is not exactly user-friendly, I put here commands for major English to Italian technical dictionaries, hoping they are still valid for the new releases of IntelliWebSearch

Note: more up-to-date dictionaries have particular GUIs that are impossible to use with shortcuts, so impossible to query by any tool but your mouse

Note: these strings are to be copy-pasted under:

Lookup in local dictionaries (CD or hard disk) Jul 13, 2017

Claudio,

thanks for sharing these settings. FWIW, the settings are useful for users of the Omni-Lookup software as well. The modifications are simple:

Replace
{Home}^{Del} by {home}{c}{del}
{Home}^{Delete} by {home}{c}{del}
{Home}+{End} by {home}{s}{end}
!{u} by {a}u
@ by {#}
and use lowercase letters only.

Here some additional query key sequences from my bookshelf:

Unilex (Acolada): {c}e{f2}{...}{#}{enter
Duden: {c}s{...}{#}{enter}

Additionally, Omni-Lookup is able to search dictionaries that are "softwareless files", e. g. .tbx (EU & Microsoft glossaries), .tmx (EU) and .xls(x). This works out of the box, no CAT software, no Excel and no sophisticated key sequence are needed.

Omni-Lookup ? Jul 13, 2017

I think I did a look eons ago, but I think to remember it was in German only

or maybe I found it as difficult as IntelliWebSearch, while I am a fan of pure WYSIWYG tools, or even better tools that do all the job alone

English & German, incl manuals.

maybe I found it as difficult as IntelliWebSearch

If you find it too difficult to learn how to drive a car, you'll have to walk by feet and many people will overtake you.
