I believe, with the reference to grain, this must refer to a grain elevator: a warehouse or series of storage tanks for the storage, lifting and distribution of grain, according to Webster's Dictionary.

Sorry; I have no idea what the Dutch word or term would be. In almost every town in the Midwest of the US, there used to be a grain elevator.

"In its day, this country elevator represented the peak of efficiency in grain handling."
