English term

Throw

English to Dutch Medical Medical: Instruments MRI
For some needles, there are two parts in order to take a tissue sample. The inner part is a tube with a sharp, yet closed end. Towards the tip there is a cutout section (notch) where the tissue will be pressed into. The outer part is a hollow tube with a sharp end that fits tightly around the inner part. When the user pressed a button the outer part rapidly slides over the inner part, cutting the tissue and trapping it within the inner tube. Because the device needs to fully cut the tissue, the outer part will extend farther into the patient once released than when the needle was first introduced (throw).
