French term

barre végétale

French to English Tech/Engineering Botany plant equipment
This is a very descriptive piece about different types of gardening and plant equipment.

There are 3 terms used cloison vegetale which ive googled and looked up different references and this particular one looks like a towel rail! So plant rack is my version.

Then there is a pied vegetale which is a vertical piece of metal with a small round base and small rings jutting out periodically up the bar to hang plant pots on. So im thinking plant stand for this.

The barre vegetale looks almost exactly the same as the pied vegetale. French description for it as follows.
"Barre végétale
Base: structure en acier finition peinture époxy
Coloris: Calcaire
Armature composée de 5 anneaux ajustables en hauteur, pouvant recevoir des pots de diamètre 16cm maximum.
Poteries vendues séparément
Poids: 4,70 kg
A monter soi-même
Instructions et accessoires de montage fournis dans l'emballage
Utilisation domestique uniquement.
Usage intérieur et extérieur
Garantie: 2 ans"

This looks to be a plant stand too to me but the French obviously differentiates so I was hoping some green fingered person might tell me the difference between the 3!

The pied vegetale is described

This is obviously almost identical to how the barre vegetale is described above. The pictures of the 2 are also practically identical.

the only difference I can see is that the pied has a small round base at the bottom of the bar and the barre vegetale has a straight horizontal bar across the bottom of the vertical and across the top

They do look to be almost identical. No details on the usage.

Its basically 3 tabs across the document one being each type of rack so it would be good to come up with something slightly different but I dont think plant bar sounds great!

thanks

Is there anything different about its use? Can several of them be attached together to form a sort of plant screen? I find it odd to have two different terms for roughly the same item.

I think you need to consider the 3 terms as a group. There must be some difference between the "pied" and "barre" - the latter I would normally expect to be horizontal. Even if not, my suggestion might still work. It can only be a suggestion without seeing the things, but you might try:

cloison végétale = plant screen
pied végétale = plant column
barre végétale = plant rail
Peer comment(s):

agree Bourth (X) : I imagined it vertically, like the pied, but "rail" still works (when they're not on strike).

Thanks, Bourth! Yes, now it sounds like another vertical thing, but I suppose there's a reason...
