French term

à l’échelle 1

French to English Marketing Manufacturing Car manufacture
Seemingly French marketing speak...

Here is the entire sentence, from a press release about a prize-winning car design, soon to be in production:

En effet, l’atelier du Centre de style (marque X)fabriquera le concept car X à l’échelle 1 afin de l’exposer sur le stand X du prochain salon de Francfort, en septembre 2005.

Is it to do with production-run numbers perhaps? If so, is this 'echelle 1' unique to car manufacturing or would it be any kind of production? And does anyone know the equivalent term or an accurate rendering in English? Thanks

RenShape modelling boards have been used to build the first Sports Utility Vehicle ever developed by Alfa Romeo. The concept car was made by Italy’s leading automotive model makers, Stola S.p.A in Just 20 days.

The project began with Alfa Romeo’s design team providing sketches and digital data for the vehicle to modelmakers at Stola. Initially a 1:4 scale model was produced and used by the Alfa design team for evaluation and assessment. A full-scale model was then machined from RenShape BM5185 modelling boards

as a Tier 1 supplier

isn't a concept car always full sized?? Although the sentence may grammatically mean this, another meaning also comes to mind:

In automotive manufacturing, there are three Tiers of Suppliers:
Tier I, Tier 2 and Tier 3.

Each Tier of Supplier has a different function. You can look that up. Tier 3, for example, make the electric systems or seatbelts.

They might mean here that the car is being manufactured by a Tier 1 supplier...the only reason I say this is because I have never seen a concept car that was no full-sized..though maybe they are not always built to scale.

See this example of Tier 1:

Ok..it seems they do make small models of cars at all sorts of scales...but normally, a concept car from a [underline] manufacturer [end underline] would be full size in English, wouldn\'t it?

neutral Bourth (X) : I agree it would be pretty daft to display a concept car other than at full scale at a motor show would be pretty daft, but it simply has to refer to the scale here.
