German term

Beziehungskomödie

German to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama cinema genres
A kind of film genre where (in this case, usually) twentysomething women are shown pursuing the man of their lives. I can't make up my mind whether 'romantic comedy' hits the spot. This is from a text that is rather disdainful of this type of film. If possible I'd like to find a term that is ever so slightly derogatory.

Discussion

Hahaha... lines crossed... ... Flipper! that made me giggle...
Non-ProZ.com Sep 16, 2004:
Ahh... ...but isn't a chick flick a film that is aimed squarely at a female audience? Then again, I guess romantic comedies are not necessarily a man's cup of tea - oder?

chick flick refers to movies characteristically geered at young females in their twenties and late teens. Must include: love scenes, kissing, something sad, a happy ending, Flipper.

Note: I suggested chick flick b/c you asked for something slightly derogatory. However, I would probably stick with romantic comedy. Beziehungskomödie isn\'t derogatory in and of itself. I\'d let the context take care of the \"flavoring.\"

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Ended up using 'chick-flick romantic comedy" as the combination appears to be used quite a bit and also covers both aspects. Thanks."

relationship comedy

I've seen it called this in many a movie review. It's similar to a romantic comedy, but without the happy outcome necessarily implied (i.e. "Scenes from a Marriage" and movies of that ilk). Your description sounds more like a Romantic Comedy, but this fits the term in general, anyway.
