I should qualify the above: most of the google image hits are on Scandinavian sites.

I added 'display' because on the image sites I see, a Multitaster seems to most commonly be a control module with several pushuttons performing various functions and (often) other display or control elements -- and if you have multifunction buttons, you need some way of knowing which function you are commanding or using, which means you need some form of indicator or display.
Judging from the large number of hits on Scandinavian sites, it may originally have been a proper name invented by a Scandinavian machine tool manufacturer.

Er ist (neben dem Not-Aus-Schalter und dem Taster für die Beladequittung) in das Bedienfeld neben der Kabinentür integriert. Der Multitaster hat je nach Betriebszustand der Maschine wechselnde Funktionen. Sind die Türen geschlossen, werden sie mit diesem Taster geöffnet. Sind sie offen, lassen sie sich mit dem Multitaster schließen. Dasselbe gilt für den Produktionsablauf, der mit dem Taster unterbrochen oder fortgesetzt werden kann.

: Why "keypad/display"? Surely it is simply a "5-function multifunction key", isn't it?
