German term

Abgabepflicht

German to English Art/Literary Media / Multimedia archive/library
The word is actually in an English text written by a German speaker.
The context is that there are no legal regulations forcing publishers to send a copy of their magazines to independent archives, only to staatliche Biblioteken. This regulation pertaining to the public libraries is called Abgabepflicht in Austria. Does anyone know if there is an English term for it?

Peer comment(s):

agree Lancashireman : 'Mandatory deposit' in UK. ('Legal deposit' suggests some people might object...) // I shudder to think what sort of illegal deposits people might make: chewing gum stuck to the underside of reading tables?
