In a press release:
"Bereits im nächsten Jahr soll diese leistungsfähige Energieversorgung für Notebooks, mobile Drucker oder **Beamer** zur Verfügung stehen."
Am I right in thinking this is some kind of projector?
Thanks in advance!

beamer
Apparently, technically, it's the sort of projector you can connect to a computer system, see definition below:
http://foldoc.doc.ic.ac.uk/foldoc/foldoc.cgi?beamer
So you could leave it as a beamer. But they may also be using it in a more general context (because it sounds English and cool!) so you may be happier with projector.
A couple more links below for good measure!

Comment: "Thanks Mary! Because my text was otherwise very general, I've opted for projector as this will be more easily understood by the average reader."

beamer / projector
Quite often the traditional (German)distinguishing line between these is made at
beamer: has a separate large lenses for each of the RGB signals; quite often installed stationary, i.e. mounted under the ceiling
projector: internal makeup similar to a projector for daylight pictures; single lamp, shining through a tiny LCD, projecting the LCD's image; commonly used as mobile projection devices.
Given your portable power supply context, the latter one seems to be the case for you.
