German term

Box

German to English Other Sports / Fitness / Recreation Cycling
Press release for a cycling event:
Insgesamt 50 *Boxen*, ausgestattet mit TV..., stehen den Teammanagern während der Straßenrennen zur Verfügung. Die *Boxenstraße* befindet sich in der (name of street)...

Would this also be called a "pit" as in car racing, or is there a special term for this for cycling road races? Or is it really just "box"? I checked numerous glossaries, both general and cycling, but had no luck with this.

Discussion

Woodstock (X) (asker) Mar 1, 2006:
Seems odd to me, too, as there is no reason to get UNDER a bicycle, but after so many years of translating, nothing ... well, no, that's not true... translating is ALWAYS good for surprises. ;-)
Kevin Pfeiffer (X) Mar 1, 2006:
I don't know. But "pit" definitely seems wrong.

team station

I can't confirm that this is what they're regularly called, but it seems like an accurate descriptive term for of a sort of mini-headquarters for each team.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks to all three of you for your help. I was happiest with Kim's answer , though, precisely for the reason he states: accurate descriptive term. I was unable to warm up to "booth", I'm afraid."

booth

this might work
Note from asker:
The problem with "cycling booth" is in most Google references it really means a stand of some kind, as at a fair, not really a place for the team to hang out and follow the race. If someone could provide more convincing references, I'd be happy to use this.

booth

you will get a great deal of Google hits under "cycling booth"
Note from asker:
Thanks for trying to help, but see above note to mbrodie. It would be nice if someone could provide more convincing evidence that this is the correct term.
