Japanese term

えび曲げ管

Japanese to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering
So this word, "えび曲げ管" is shown in the document for power plant construction design.
Can it be "shrimp bending pipe"?
I suppose it means a pipe which is bent like a shrimp's body.
So "shrimp-like-shape bending pipe"?
Quite lost here.

Thank you in advance for any opinions.

Thanks,

-Tatsuhiro Sugihira-

Discussion

Marc Brunet Aug 28, 2013:
What does a prawn tail really look like? Thank you for your interesting challenge, Krzysztof. Nevertheless, precisely based on the drawings you refer to, am still supporting the "Mitered" version. Why? it resembles the dorsal plate articulation of the prawn's tail far better than the "corrugated" version you favour. Actually if, from your image selection, you had selected the "adjustable" elbow, would have accepted it as a possible alternative, with qualifications. But whether or not the composite bend angle of those 'Prawn Tail look' models can be adjusted by swivelling one or more of their component sections, all (adjustable/welded) sections of such elbow types have to be cut at a set angle, and so must rely on a mitre for their manufacture. Don't Agree? :-)

miter elbow

俗に「Elbow」と呼ばれています。Miter bentとも言うようです。

neutral cinefil : 単にelbowでは、種類が有り過ぎです。またbendです。

ご指摘の通りbentではなくbendでした。
agree Marc Brunet : 'mitered' rather than 'miter' might be better...

corrugated elbow

To my knowledge, "miter elbow" is different from えび曲げ, since it requires the pipe to be cut, beveled and reattached, while えび曲げ is a continuous pipe, where the angle part is corrugated. I would use "corrugated elbow" to describe this type instead - see reference link (scroll down for picture and compare with the link you posted).
