Norwegian term
etter regning
Norwegian to English
Bus/Financial
Accounting
I know a similar question has been asked before but I don't see that my construction gives the same meaning/translation. Sentence reads:
"Tjenestene som er angitt ovenfor, leveres etter regning."
Can "regning" here mean"price estimate"? This would give a translation: "..according to price estimate" andwould make most sense, particularly as the heading for this paragraph is: Timesatser, prisoverslag og utgifter".

as per invoice
This is not a good translation, but then the source text isn't all that great either. Etter regning would normally be as per documented expense, as in a tile-layer billing for his time, travel, plus what he himself paid for the tiles and other material - etter regning. So, etter regning should normally be understood as invoiced through without markup. There are all kinds of tricks to ensure this doesn't happen.
Billing translations 'etter regning', for example, would mean that what I bill the principal equals what you bill me, and I have the records to prove it.

Comment: "It turns out that in this case it did not include materials, only hours used, but this discussion shows that this term should be treated with caution. Thanks to Per and everyone one for their input."

Yes, even consultants seem to use the expression even if there's often not much material involved. Maybe translators should start to invoice for worn-out keyboards and coffee makers?

Note from asker:
Looks like this might be right after all, Bjørnar. See http://www.torvund.net/index.php?page=it_ktr_131 ""Et sentralt spørsmål er om man skal avtale en fast pris, eller om ytelsen skal faktureres etter regning.(97) Arbeid etter regning kalles ofte for «time and material» – IT-bransjen er fortsatt en bransje som ikke synes et låter tøft nok hvis det ikke sies på engelsk." |
Ah, at last! Sorry if I seem a bit slower on the uptake than usual today, guys, and thanks for your patience. Although I was familiar with the term "time and material" in connection with construction contracts, it had not occurred to me that it had also been adopted by the consultancy world. |

according to invoice
I happened to see the question and the discussion this (18 April) morning. 'etter regning' can be translated into either 'according to invoice' or 'as per invoice'.
Discussion
So I can't use "time and material" here after all. So it will have to be either Per or lingo_montreal's suggestions after all.
