Discussion

brigidm (asker) Feb 14, 2008:
1. For the record, I should have also entered "chorus". Will see if I can edit that.
2. From my understanding, and from the kontekst I was interested in, a doo-wop chorus consists of a group of singers who accompany a main singer.
3. If number of hits is any indication, the more accepted spelling is in fact "doo-wop" rather than "duwop".
4. The fact that I awarded 3 reflects the fact that this entry should be treated with slight caution, depending on given context.
Suzanne Blangsted (X) Feb 14, 2008:
If you choose my answer, then please remove the word "backing". It is NOT a backing group, it is THE group. A chorus is a backing group, but this is the MAIN group.
brigidm (asker) Feb 13, 2008:
I do like valhalla's suggestion, I must say! Just wonder - would "backing group" be way too 'straight' and boring equivalent here? The context is a theatre script, so the style is oral.

my suggestion - pretty sure that this is it.
Peer comment(s):

agree Thomas Deschington (X) : I'd say doowop group. More than 2000 hits in good ol' G.

shoo-bee-doo is another possibility
Peer comment(s):

neutral Thomas Deschington (X) : But not chorus - that's what comes between the verses. Must be backing singers or something.

agree Andrew Alix : Agree with Thomas. Group would be better. If they're accompanying, then they're a back-up.
