Hi, prozians. In Spanish, in Argentina we use to say this to express that some new idea penetrated us and broke the old thought pattern we had. Is there an equivalent expression in English?

If I think of the expression "mind blowing" or "it blew their mind" a good example of its use might be in reference to the Beatles. Their music was revolutionary and it blew everyone's minds because they'd never conceived of anything like that before. I don't agree with Ysabel that it's use is more negative than positive. I think it's synonymous with incredible. I do agree with LisaMac that it doesn't necessarily mean you'll change your way of thinking because of the thing that blew your mind, but you might.<br><br>I'm not familiar with the expression "it turned my head around". Someone else would need to confirm the exact meaning of that phrase. Sorry I can't be more helpful there! ;)

As Ysabel also shows in her example of usage, when something 'blows your mind' it means you are really amazed by it or really impressed by it, but does not necessarily mean that you will change your way of thinking because of this.

I think "it turned my head around" is more precisely in line with the meaning you are looking for. The problem I have with "blows my mind" can be illustrated by this quotation from http://www.schneier.com/blog/archives/2006/12/more_airplane_...

"It blows my mind that you can't get 3.5 ounces of toothpaste on a plane," he said, "yet somebody can sneak on a plane and take a nap."

In this correct use of "blows my mind," someone is amazed or taken aback by a stupid situation which they find impossible to comprehend. It has nothing to do with a new idea changing your thought pattern.

Difference Hi Magdalena - I believe there is a slight difference between them:
'It blew my mind' = I was really, really impressed by it.
'It turned my head around' = I was really, really impressed by it and it changed my way of thinking, my opinions etc.

e.g. Prison for me was a very profound retreat, a very deep experience. I don't want anyone to have to experience what I did, but having gone through it and having come out OK, I can see its other side. **It turned my head around**, it radically changed my vision of things.

It blew my mind

This is colloquial and you'd use it for a new idea that you'd never even considered before. Something that could completely change your way of thinking. I'm not sure if that would fit into your context.
