Fall would work too, like Paul</> wrote, though falls off doesn't look right. Peas fall, they don't falls.

I think this works well in the context.

fall out/are released

When the peas inside a specific pod are ripe, the pod opens and the peas fall out. I think it's important to include the preposition "out" in "fall out." Another way to describe it is that the peas are "released."
