: Den här klingar bäst tycker jag, eller bara "I'm out of gas". Inget så pittoreskt som "soppatorsk", tyvärr utan att bli forcerat. "Running on empty" är kul, men, som med "running on fumes" nedan, antyder att kärran fortfarande rullar...

I'm clean out of petrol (BE)
Clean out is unyphenated. Otherwise, it would change the meaning to clearing out the petrol.
I've added BE really for Southern England I'm familiar with, though there may well be Northern Eng./ Scottish/ Irish etc. variants I hope we'll be hearing about.

I'm running on fumes
for a US version. It means the gas tank has no more liquid gasoline left in it and the only thing left to burn in the tank is the fumes. If you do a Google search for "running on fumes" (*with* quotation marks) you'll find some figurative uses too -- e.g. for the US economy.
