Supportive, yes! My wife accepts that working as a freelance has its down sides, which are more than compensated for by its up sides (more time together, flexibility, etc.). Regarding the comment on "what about us" referring to those without partners, I would say, use your free time well and, as I said in another forum, work to live not live to work. | |

No partner, no kids, no family, no cat, no dog - the godchildren would like me to have more time for them, and I always feel that one such relationship is enough (i.e. the relationship between me and my self-declared godchildren that entitles them to make demands on my time). I know several freelance translators who cut their working hours exactly to the size and shape of their partners' inhouse jobs. I would hate that!!! ... because he is a hardened gamer and loves the chance to spend a night on his favourite new game in the computer next to me... he works flexible hours too, so that helps as well.
