She is never jealous but she becomes frantic sometimes , when I am unable to perform the outdoor domsetic duties due to load of my translation work.

No. He has flexible hours too! Apr 14, 2006

He's glad I'm happy, and making money! We always find time to be together. Both of us are fortunate in having flexible schedules. He does worry sometimes that I'm not getting enough sleep, though.

What about us? Apr 14, 2006

How about an "I don't have a partner" option?

Even Proz is anti us singletons these days!

Jealous is the wrong word Apr 14, 2006

No, not jealous but ill-tempered since most of the time we cannot synchronise our time tables.

Jealous, No! Apr 14, 2006

Supportive, yes! My wife accepts that working as a freelance has its down sides, which are more than compensated for by its up sides (more time together, flexibility, etc.).
Regarding the comment on "what about us" referring to those without partners, I would say, use your free time well and, as I said in another forum, work to live not live to work.

Another bachelor Apr 14, 2006

However, no problem that you didn't include bachelors.

Being a bachelor raises the status of a Technical College tech translator! In alle fairness I lift the veil on my "CV": http://www.henkpeelen.com/fromhemmietohenk.htm

i was the jealous one ;-) Apr 14, 2006

My ex was an accountant so when it came to key periods in the tax year, he basically lived at the office, so if anything, he was the one who was always late for dates because he had finish off some file.

No woman, no cry Apr 14, 2006

No partner, no kids, no family, no cat, no dog - the godchildren would like me to have more time for them, and I always feel that one such relationship is enough (i.e. the relationship between me and my self-declared godchildren that entitles them to make demands on my time).

I know several freelance translators who cut their working hours exactly to the size and shape of their partners' inhouse jobs. I would hate that!!!

my partner actually likes it Apr 14, 2006

because he is a hardened gamer and loves the chance to spend a night on his favourite new game in the computer next to me... he works flexible hours too, so that helps as well. He does whine a bit if he has to do all the chores though but he loves to brag to our friends about becoming a stay-at-home-dad someday...
