I am in the process of registering with Airbnb for the first time. In registeration, it also asks for a form of payment. There are 2 choices here, PayPal and credit card. I first picked PayPal, and tried to log in PayPal user name and password at Airbnb. For some reason, I could not enter my PayPal info after several trials. That left me with only one choice, my credit card. I am hesitant to give my credit card information at a site I am not that familiar with. This is mobile Airbnb, by t... See more

Any suggestions on how to proceed?Collapse

Is your AirBnB visit translation-related?

It is actually general for any future travels.

We have used Airbnb without any problems.
Whether you need to rent a place while travelling, or want to rent out a place you own, you do need to screen everyone and everything, looking at the latest comments.
My personal experience as a traveller is that if the best people can come up with is "it's clean", then it's probably minuscule and spartan. "Clean" should be the very minimum!

My personal experience as a hostess is that most people are slobs so you need to tack on a hefty cleaning fee.

Actually it's on-topic. I'm asking because if I make a little trip to Italy "to practice my Italian" maybe I could write off the cost of the Air BnB as a business expense...

My experience is mixed, but not been scammed Jan 24

I've stayed in AirBnBs several times, from a room in a family home, to a guest-house type of arrangement, to whole property rentals. They've been an incredibly mixed bunch but more on the eyebrow-raising and "quaint" memories level than anything unpleasant.

The site is very security conscious. I find it quite annoyingly so when I'm in a hurry, but I know it's for the best.

I once came across one owner in France who wasn't at all serious -- she really wanted to do a swap

I once came across one owner in France who wasn't at all serious -- she really wanted to do a swap at a mutually convenient time. She wasted my time so I reported her to AirBnB. Next day, there was no trace of her property.

Can I give my credit card information to Airbnb safely, do you think?

Well, you've got to pay somehow Jan 25

Yes, it's a perfectly respectable company even if some of the owners of properties may be a bit "amateur". In fact, paying by CC is probably a very good idea as the card comes with a certain amount of insurance cover.

We've been lucky so far Jan 25

My family has used Airbnb several times. Some places better than others, but they were all reasonable. Friends have told a few tales, one of a ´view´ that was across a narrow street, and the balcony smelt of the extractor fan from the restaurant below, so there was no fresh air in the flat until after it closed...

We rented one on the fourth floor, no elevator, but they did warn us before we booked… The apartments were all double height, too, so there were LOTS of stairs!

As we were moving out, another host on the second floor was cleaning out her flat, showed it to us and gave us her card, which we kept. The apartments were both fine, but I would go for the one with less stairs any day.
