Here is what student member Agnieszka Skibinska - http://www.proz.com/profile/692094 - posted in the newly-created forum for discussion among student members:

"It's absolutely fantastic that we students have now our own, 'separated' space at ProZ.com!

I joined the community here nearly a month ago and the experience of being a member of such a massive gathering of translators is just great. I have done a lot of translation and interpreting services over the past 7 months and have to admit that being able to translate and learn new skills is purely the most enjoyable activity in my life so far.

Will definitely try to help as much as I can to develop the students bit of this web service."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Would you like to compare experiences with colleagues on such topics as your routine for backing up work, your approach to proofreading, how many words you have translated in your career, or even the number of items you happen to have on your desk right now?
Would you like to know how many of your ProZ.com colleagues did *not* choose translation as their first profession (55.6%), how many have experienced carpal-tunnel syndrome (16.2%), or how many feel their time zone gives them a competitive advantage (22.6%)?
You, too, could know these things and many more! Just take a moment to stop by and respond to the "Quick Poll" on the right side of ProZ.com's home page: http://www.proz.com
The Quick Polls are rotated daily, and associated discussions are carried on for each poll in the forums. For example, here is the discussion related to the question "Was translation your first choice as a career?": http://www.proz.com/topic/75940
Members, you can browse the results of past quick polls here: http://www.proz.com/polls
(15) From the forums: 'Seeing China through our camera lenses'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Member (and moderator) Kevin Yang has made a great contribution to the forums, entitled "Seeing China through our camera lenses". He begins:

"Nowadays, it seems everyone and everywhere is talking about China. Some of you might live there everyday, some of you might have never been there, or some of you are like me who only can manage to go there once every five years. Recently, I just came back from China after I had a 20-day visit in Shanghai, Zhenjiang, Yangzhou, Nanjing, Suzhou and Hangzhou. All these cities are in the southern part of China.

I took so many pictures with my old digital camera, and selected some of them to share with you. I had to reduce the size and resolution for the quick display here. Anyhow, I hope you will enjoy seeing China through my camera lens. If you have some and would like to share with us, please feel free to post them here. Be sure the photos must be taken by you."

This post, filled with Kevin's excellent photos, attracted over 200 replies from ProZ.com colleagues. See: http://www.proz.com/topic/74372

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you are a freelance translator or interpreter, it is in your interest to make full use of the potential of the web to promote yourself. Your ProZ.com profile can be a great tool for doing that.
A one-page "quick profile updater" is now available to make the process of completing and updating your ProZ.com profile as easy as possible. Updating the required information section of this form should take no more than twenty minutes, so please pause to do it now: http://www.proz.com/quick_profile (If you make your living as a translator, this could be the most productive twenty minutes of your year!)
After updating your profile, you may want to do a couple things to maximize the traffic you attract to it from search engines such as Google and Yahoo. For tips on doing that, see: http://www.proz.com/doc/447
