Rodrigo Gaion . Trados Studio is definitely my primary CAT Tool for translation/editing projects.
I love the fact that I can receive a project set up with absolutely everything I'll need, and simply easily switch from one view to another during work.
All the information is there for you, easily reachable.
In my opinion, this software is pretty simple to learn, since everything you'll use is well placed throughout your screen. It's intuitive and the Help feature works a lot for understanding features that may seem more complex at first.
The folder structure really helps to keep all your files organized, which is paramount for who deals with lots and lots of files every single day.
I would definitely recommend this CAT Toll for beginners or for the ones who whiss to streamline once and for all the translation workflow.

How easy is it to learn?
A CAT-tool with too much functions you don't use

Els Peleman . Trados Studio 2014 is a great tool with a lot of features which are very convenient but also a lot that you don't use because they are too difficult or not usefull (ex. Regex). The biggest inconvenient is that Trados is the only CAT-tool that is not 100% compatible with Dragon Naturally Speaking: the correction features doesn't work like it has to. I hope the upgrade 2016 will be an improvement on that field. If not, I don't think I will do the upgrade.

How easy is it to learn?
Too slow, too complex for simple tasks, not stable

Hans Lenting . I've been using SDL Studio 2009, 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2017. Nevertheless, I'm not a fan of this software. In my opinion it's too slow for many important tasks (like changing the status of all segments in a project, finding and replacing all occurrences of a string in a huge project, etc.).
I also don't like it that in order to use a small client's glossary with a couple of terms, I have to perform a lot of steps. (This as an example of many other micro tasks that are rather difficult to achieve in Studio.)
Studio, even in it's 2017 version, misses a lot of useful features (like automatic case adaption during finding and replacing, simultaneously finding and replacing in both the project and the attached termbases and/or translation memories: features that really boost my productivity–especially when working with legacy memories, created by other translators years ago).
Integration of multiple MT engines and web searches at the same time hasn't been implemented very well (it has just been added as 'yet another feature we must support too', there is NO tight integration or coherent usage concept). And: dragging and dropping of text from these resources is not possible.
I've stopped using Studio. Instead I use CAT tool that works directly on my Mac, without any Microsoft Windows.
The best thing of Studio is for me its SDLXLIFF file format: this 'universal' file format can be handled by many other CAT tools, in a faster, smarter way.
The worst thing about Studio is for me the use of many individual components, many of them created by third parties. I find that the integration of these components often leads to crashes. The error messages all have in common that 'some component' couldn't access 'some important process'. Which isn't of much use to me.
Studio builds on the software products of two different companies and has been patched from 2009, 2011, 2014, 2015 to 2017–and you can notice this. There is no tight integration.
SDL has the resources to offer splendid documentation. So here Studio excels.

How easy is it to learn?
A solid tool, but deal breaking flaws.

Nicolas Bianchi . I own a few translation tools but use mainly memoQ (90%) and SDL Trados Studio (10%). I recently upgraded to 2019.
What I do like about the software:
- Multisession ability
- Pretty stable
- Document structure available in a separate pane, which allows you to reach specific points of a document without scrolling too much.
- Simultaneous insertion of a pair of tags (opening and closing tags) at once.
- Creation of a projet template based on a project.
- Possibility to save resources wherever you want (drawback: you have to remember where they all are when you want to save them)
Cons
- When it crashes and refuses to get the files out, it can be very tricky to solve the issue.
- Retrofit often messes the realignment (empty segments get inserted on one side of the "original file" side of the retrofit view, and re-linking is impossible as Studio refuses to link what is sees as two different paragraphs).
- Project TMs: when I decide to use project TMs, all I want one single project TM populated with the segments of the files I’m working on. But studio always creates one project TM for each of the main TMs attached to the project. (This can be up to 7!).
- Last but not least. Actually this is the real deal breaker: a useless alignment tool. I use this function a lot for translation supporting documents.
Documents with headers, footers, embedded tables and boxes lead to alignment errors, and adjusting the alignment is time consuming and frustrating. The view is very confusing because of the many "Y-segments" (2 source > 1 target or 1 source > 2 target segments): why not merge the segments to get a table like view of the alignment? And improve the alignment editing tool at the same time. In order to pair incorrect aligned segments, all involved segments need to be unpaired first. What a waste of time! SDL might not bother because they think their tool is accurate enough... but it’s not. I somehow hope that the acquisition of MultiTrans will really improve the alignment accuracy and approach in the future (text based and not segment based).
IMHO, SDL Trados Studio is a pretty good tool, but let’s put it this way: none of the features really provide me with added value in my everyday work as a translator (compared to memoQ, which gets the job done just fine). But the cons, esp. 1 and 3, are deal breakers.
