Far from it. In fact, as I'm working from home, I can shower several times a day if I want, and spend more time on things like grooming. Personally, I think the stereotype of freelancers as being grubby and unkempt is a false trope perpetrated by envious corporate drone workers.

PPS: @Chris ROFL, thanks for that

I pay less attention for sure to the way I’m dressed comparing to the years I worked in-house, but I don’t pay less attention to my personal hygiene. Taking the time for a long, hot shower every day is a luxury I can afford!

There are two ways of taking this (and neither is insulting IMO).

Either way, the answer is yes.

When I was an employee, I paid a lot more attention to other people's personal hygiene. What a bunch of stinkers translators are!

Or...

When I was an employee, I used to bathe at least once a month, whereas now I just open the window. Obvs.

Bizarre question, when you commute you are pressed to strangers and sometimes they cough or sneeze in very front of you. You grip handrails that are often greasy. You breath air right next to exhaust port of vehicles. People nearby smoke and the that gets into your hair.

If you work at home you do not have to get involved in any of these.

If you're offended, you don't have to reply. Oct 18, 2017

I noticed I make far less effort to dress well now that I no longer work in the smart end of town.

I used to bike it to work, and showered on arrival.

It would be easier to let things slip working from home, except I do live with other people and out of courtesy for them, I still shower after exercising.

I have heard stories of translators answering the door in their dressing-gown, but that doesn't mean they're dirty, just that they haven't dressed.

I may take a little longer before I get into the shower at times (10 am today) but the answer is no in my case and I am sure it's the same for most translators. I dress properly (for the season) except for my feet - usually bare unless it's quite cold.

Nee, why?

It is just a question, and just as stupid as anonymous can get without being known.

But seriously, is this a cosmetic company making this poll?

Possibly there are freelancers taking advantage of being alone and don't bother to take care of themselves.
But it depends on the person.

IMO this depends entirely on the individual. Hygiene is a matter of attitude, not one depending on one's work place.

The more interesting question might be, who came up with that question? And... what does it say about him/her?

Interesting... Oct 18, 2017

The concept that because we sit at home all day, we stink?

I haven't cut my hair in ten years or taken a shower in six months? Bizarre, and quite funny. I bought deodorant once, many moons ago, and I'm considering renting industrial shears for my toenails.

Seriously? I take a shower every morning as soon as I get up. I can't start the day feeling all grimy.

On any given day, I never smell worse than my dog. Bahaha

Off to watch the latest WH press conference! Like standup comedy, only funnier!

Who knows if that translation was done by a freshly showered, immaculately groomed person or a grubby scruff wearing stale pyjamas?
