German term

in die Vorhand gingen

German to English Bus/Financial Law: Contract(s) Report
Hi everybody,

Could you please suggest what "in die Vorhand gingen" means in this context:

Einige Lieferanten hatten darauf gedrängt, dass sie einem Schuldner gegenüber stehen. Hans and Peter hatten Verständnis hierfür, weswegen sie bei verschiedenen Lieferanten in die Vorhand gingen.

Thank you for your help!

Bingo ;-)
Coqueiro Oct 8, 2019:
Hans & Peter they payed in advance - sie gingen in Vorleistung oder sie zahlten per Vorkasse.

So verstehe ich das.
Denis Lebedev (asker) Oct 8, 2019:
Or tried to pay in advance?
Denis Lebedev (asker) Oct 8, 2019:
Or does it just mean that they had to go to different suppliers?
Denis Lebedev (asker) Oct 8, 2019:
As far as I understand the first sentence, it means that some suppliers were convinced that they were facing a debtor.
But the second sentence...
Hans and Peter understood it and tried to take advantage of the suppliers?

German term (edited): (bei...) in die Vorhand gehen

1. get one up or 'over' on.... 2. engineer a first refusal with

die Vorhand haben means, legally, to have first option or refusal (Der Grosse Eichborn & Dietl/Lorenz) but surely is not the same as 'in *Vorlage* treten' = pay up front.

Anyhow, it depends how H& P are and what they are up or down to.
