Source text - English As we were on a daily patrol to check out some surrounding areas near our FOB, we came into a small town where the last war marked its signs onto most of the buildings and structures, I never saw scenes like on this day before, only in Television or Newspapers but never with my own eyes.
But that was not the point made this a special day.
When we stopped at some kind of road crossing, we got out of our vehicles and started to check the backyards, corners and
some garages if there would be any suspicious stuff.
It was a sunny and warm day and our gear and equipment once again did the best to made us sweat more than we mostly prefer, as I suddenly spotted some young kids playing around and having some fun together, for a few moments I forgot where I was and what I'm doing here.[...]
Translation - German Als wir auf einer täglichen Patrouille waren, um die Umgebung nahe unseres vorgeschobenen Militärstützpunkt zu kontrollieren, kamen wir in eine Kleinstadt, inder der letzte Krieg noch seine Spuren an Häusern und Wänden hinterlassen hatte,
Niemals zuvor hatte ich solche Bilder in der Realität gesehen, immer nur im Fernsehen oder in der Zeitung, doch nie mit meinen eigenen Augen.
Aber das war nicht der Grund warum dies ein besonderer Tag war.
Als wir an einer Art Straßenkreuzung anhielten, stiegen wir aus unseren Fahrzeugen und fingen an, die Hinterhöfe, Ecken und einige Garagen nach verdächtigen Gegenständen abzusuchen.
Es war ein sonniger und warmer Tag und unsere Ausrüstung tat wieder einmal das Beste, um uns ins schwitzen zu bringn, mehr als wir jemals bevorzugen würden, als ich plötzlich einige junge Kinder entdeckte, die miteinander spielten und Spass hatten, für ein paar wenige momente vergaß ich wo ich war und was ich hier tue.[...]
