I started working as an
interpreter/translator in 2009 for various international originations/companies
in Vietnam. Back then, about 30% of my job duties were to interpret for meetings
and translate documents on construction, project development, education, and legal
frameworks.
After relocating to Canada in 2018, I have
cooperated as a regular freelancer with many US and Canada-based agencies such
as MCIS Languages Solutions, Linguistica, Cantalk Canada, 911 Interpreter, MAPA
Translations, Inc., Viet Language Services, etc.
Some major projects/assignments that I worked on are:
-
Interpreted
for medical calls from San Francisco General Hospital through a call center (16 hours/week);
-
Interpreted
for psychology intakes and treatments, interviews for car insurance purposes, calls
on child protection, domestic violence, teacher-parent meetings, etc.;
-
Transcribed
audio tapes for prison visits and casual conversations (in preparation for a
lawsuit); and then translated the transcription into English;
-
Translated
documents and/or reviewed translated documents for the Airbnb website, guidance on
how to use an insulin pen, healthcare guidance from the US and Canadian Gov’t for
the public, Individual Education Plan between schools and parents, etc.;
-
Tested
Machine-Translation engine for accuracy, profanity, fluency, etc.
Interpretation/Translation related
qualifications:
-
Completion
of Translator Training Program Certificate by MCIS Languages
-
Interpreting
in Crisis Situations, Certificate of Attendance by Virginia Interpreter and Translator
Association
-
Vietnamese Idioms and
Terminology, Certificate of Attendance by Oregon Society of Translators and Interpreters
