Source text - English I have no idea why we have to keep doing this one scene so many times, and I figure it’s best not to ask questions, but I notice that each time I come back to the set, the camera is in a new position, so I have a feeling it has something to do with that. Oh well, at least every time I’m brought to set, I get to see Mom.
Each time the PA walks us kids back to set, we pass the “background parents holding room,” where all the parents are stuffed into a small bungalow. I wave to Mom, who notices me every single time. No matter how engrossed in her Woman’s World magazine she is, she dog-ears the page, looks up at me, smiles big, and gives me a thumbs-up. We are so connected.
By the end of the day, I’m exhausted. It’s been eight and a half hours of being on set and doing schoolwork and walking from the stage to the schoolroom and taking directions and hearing drills and smelling smoke (there was a fog machine on the gas chamber set to enhance the ambiance). It’s been a long day and I haven’t particularly enjoyed it, but I did like the hard-boiled egg.
“Suffocating to death,” Mom says eagerly on our way home, as she recounts everything I told her about the day. “And in a CLOSE-UP. That’s gonna really show off how good you are. I bet once this airs, Academy Kids is gonna beg you to be a principal actor. BEG.”
Translation - Portuguese Eu não faço a mínima ideia do porquê de estarmos fazendo essa mesma cena tantas vezes, e eu acho que é melhor não fazer perguntas, mas eu percebi que sempre que eu volto para o set, a câmera está numa posição diferente, então eu acho que tem algo a ver com isso. Bem, ao menos toda vez que eu sou trazida para o set eu posso ver a Mãe.
Toda vez que o assistente pessoal leva nós, crianças, de volta ao set, nós passamos pela "sala dos pais dos figurantes," onde todos os pais são enfiados numa salinha apertada. Eu aceno para a Mãe, que sempre percebe que estou ali toda vez que passo. Não importa o quão imersa ela esteja na sua revista sobre o Mundo das Mulheres, ela dobra a página, olha para mim, dá um grande sorriso e um joinha. Nós estamos tão conectadas.
No fim do dia, estou exausta. Foram oito horas e meia no set fazendo atividades escolares e andando do estágio para a sala de aula e recebendo instruções e ouvindo furadeiras e cheirando fumaça (tinha uma máquina de fumaça na câmara de gás para deixar o ambiente mais “realista"). Foi um dia longo e eu não gostei muito dele, mas eu gostei dos ovos cozidos.
"Sufocando até a morte," Mãe diz com entusiasmo, enquanto repete para si tudo que eu contei para ela sobre meu dia. "E você ainda recebeu um CLOSE-UP. Isso vai realmente mostrar o quão bom você é. Eu tenho certeza que assim que isso ir ao ar, a Academy Kids vai implorar para que você seja uma atriz principal. Eles vão IMPLORAR."
