English to German Medical Genetics oncology, sarcomas, techniques for detecting molecular abnormalities

In meinem aktuellen Text geht es um Verfahren zum Nachweis molekularer Anomalien bei Sarkomen:

Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) detects a specific DNA target in the nuclei of interphase cells and can be used to demonstrate a gene rearrangement such as a translocation, an amplification, or a deletion.
Nowadays, it is the most frequently used technique for showing translocation and MDM2 amplification. Commercially available break-apart probes (Fig. 3) are regularly used for demonstrating rearrangement of EWSR1,
SS18 (SYT), DDIT3 (CHOP), FOXO1A (FKHR),

for MDM2 associated with probes for the centromeric region of chromosome 12** can be used to show 12q14-15 amplicon.

Mit dem letzten Satz habe ich Probleme:

Zum Nachweis des Amplicons 12q14-15 können handelsübliche Sonden für MDM2 **associated with** Sonden für die Zentromerregion von Chromosom 12 verwendet werden.

1.) Bezieht sich "associated with probes for [...]" auf die handelsüblichen Sonden oder auf MDM2? Ich vermute, es bezieht sich auf die Sonden.

2.) "To associate x with y" bedeutet i.d.R. soviel wie "make a logical or causal connection between x and y". Diese Bedeutung ergibt für mich hier wenig Sinn.

Der Text stammt übrigens von Nicht-Muttersprachlern (Franzosen), ist aber soweit okay.
