Source text - Japanese We recently succeeded in the development and test production of an "innovative insulation foam seat" that can maintain long-term insulation efficiency at the highest level in the world. In addition to achieving thermal conductivity (0.1456 Btu ((ft h °F)) or less) equivalent to F-type insulating material, being able to maintain the thermal insulation performance over an extended period of time is a feature of the seat. In addition to applying plant-based polylactate plastic to the main ingredient and reducing the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) during production to less than half of the existing foaming-type thermal insulation material, we achieved the creation of an advanced material that is gentle to the environment, foaming with carbon dioxide gas, which has lower global warming potential than hydrocarbons. By expanding this developed item with thermal insulator uses intended for areas such as construction, transportation, consumer electronics and cars, advancing the conservation of energy and eco-friendly changes, we expect a contribution to energy-saving effects and carbon dioxide emission reduction over the long term and the prevention of global warming. Our company aims to establish the mass production technology and commercial viability for this development item by 2012.
Previous non-chlorofluorocarbon (CFC)-type thermal insulators had achieved excellent insulation efficiency by filling in the gaps in petroleum-based plastic foam with low-thermal-conductivity hydrocarbons. The "innovative insulation foam seat" that was developed this time simultaneously achieved insulation, durability and environmental efficiency equaling or surpassing existing products, using plant-derived plastic by the fusion of newly developed "micro/nano foam technology" and our unique "carbon dioxide barrier technology". The technical points are as follows.
1. Micro / nano foam technology
Although plant-derived plastic has generally not foamed easily with carbon dioxide, we used carbon dioxide to successfully create foam with the highest porosity (98%) in the world, by blending our unique "Nanoalloy" technology and continuous melt extrusion foaming technology. Specifically, we developed "Nanoalloy" plastic consisting of multiple polylactate-type polymers with different carbon dioxide solubilities and minimized the intermembranous radiating heat transfer of the bubble cells, of the solid part of the insulating material and of the gas inside the bubble cells by precisely building the micro-order and nano-order foam structures. By means of this, for the first time it became possible to produce the maximum level of F-type insulation efficiency as a thermal insulator through the combination of a plant-derived plastic/carbon dioxide system.
2. Carbon dioxide barrier technology
Our company deepened the film-forming technology and vapor deposition technology that we had cultivated for a number of years, and succeeded in a 100-fold gas barrier characteristics improvement versus existing aluminized polyester film through our to-the-limit pursuit of a bulk packing structure that is a higher-order structure of polyester and of surface-structure control. We controlled carbon dioxide diffusion by combining this film with previous micro/nano foams and achieved durability that can maintain excellent insulation efficiency for a long period of several decades.

Translation - English Our country's medium-term targets in the post-Kyoto Protocol process
June 8, 2009
Japan Business Federation
Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry〔JCCI〕
The business world is determined to further improve the highest energy efficiency in the world both in manufacturing processes and in products, to continue to actively tackle solutions for the global warming issue such as advanced development of environmental technologies and their broad use on a global scale.
Maintenance and strengthening of business vitality are essential to that.
In setting medium-term targets, things like international equity, feasibility, and the validity of the level of the financial burden placed on the citizens should be ensured, and we would like you to give special consideration to the points described below.
At the same time, with regard to the post-Kyoto Protocol international framework, along with the decision to make 2005 the base year, we believe it is crucial that the countries with major emissions, such as the United States, China and India, participate in meaningful ways.
Description of Points
1. To ensure equitable conditions for international competition, the reduction target for our country must be on a par with the targets of Europe and America, in terms of marginal abatement costs, etc.
Also, although medium-term target reviews including items such as CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) are being performed in Europe and America, for comparison with the levels of reduction in our country, we believe that only reductions due to domestic measures should be subject to comparison.
2. We estimate that the means for reduction potential were accumulated in each sector at the medium-term target reviews.
For the accomplishment of the objectives of sectors such as the consumer and transportation sectors, we are greatly dependent on the spread of new energies and energy-saving products to consumers and would like to strongly request government initiatives. At the same time, when growth does not occur as the government envisioned and when the targets are not achieved in sectors like the consumer and transportation sectors, it's up to the government to give it needed attention.
3. It is technology that holds the key to the real solution for the global warming problem. We believe that policies (such as emission trading systems involving new taxation and mandatory caps for environmental objectives) that reduce the vitality of companies that lead in technological development should not be introduced.
4. We request that the government provide an adequate explanation to the public about the increased burdens of rising product and energy prices accompanying global warming measures, to obtain their understanding and consent.

Translation - English Nikko Toshogu
Nikko Toshogu is a Shinto shrine in Nikko city, Tochigi Prefecture. It enshrines Tōshō Dai-Gongen, the deified Ieyasu Tokugawa, the first shogun of the Edo Shogunate. It is an entity equivalent to the one and only headquarters of Toshogu for the entire country of Japan. Although the standard nomenclature is "Toshogu", which does not serve as a brand for things like location names, it is often called "Nikko Toshogu" to distinguish it from other Toshogu locations
Nikko Toshogu shrine is the Shinto shrine where the first Tokugawa Shogun, Lord Ieyasu Tokugawa, was enshrined with the festival gods in the 3rd year of the Genna era (1617). Lord Ieyasu was born on December 26 in the 11th year of the Tenbun era (1542) at Okazaki castle in Mikawa (Aichi Prefecture, Okazai City), suffered repeated hardship from childhood, suppressed the warring states in a turbulent age and established the shogunate system. He also established order and structure in the Japanese world, encouraged learning, revived industry, built the foundation for peace and culture during the 260-year span of the Edo period and made a significant contribution to the development of modern Japan.
Lord Ieyasu passed away at Sumpu castle (Shizuoka Prefecture, Shizuoka City) on April 17 of 1616 after 75 years of life and shortly thereafter received a Shinto funeral at Kunōzan. And one year later, on April 15 of 1617, he was moved from Kunōzan to the current location and was enshrined in satisfaction of his will. On April 17 of the same year, with the second Shogun, Lord Hidetada Tokugawa, the nobles and samurai in attendance, the ceremony to return him to the shrine chamber was carried out solemnly and he occupied this place at the Tosho shrine. Following that, the shrine designation was provided in the second year of the Sho-ho era (1645) and it came to be called Toshogu Shrine.
Furthermore, the main group of buildings currently in the shrine was rebuilt under the third Shogun, Lord, Iemitsu, in the 13th year of the Kanei era (1636).
A number of animals can be seen in various buildings when visiting Nikko Toshogu shrine. Most of these animals are drawn as epitomizing peace.
Although is said that the "Sleeping cat" that defends the inner shrine entrance is actually giving the appearance of being asleep in order to defend Ieyasu, based on the fact that it is firmly holding on (to the top of the doorway) with its front legs and is in a stance where it can spring at any time, "So peaceful even a cat will sleep” is shown as another teaching (even though a sparrow is flying behind it).
There are eight embossed screens with carvings of monkeys on the shrine stable and they are used because of the legend that the monkey is an animal that protects horses. The eight screens depict the life of the monkeys and by extension they have set forth the way for man to spend a peaceful life. After the sleeping cat, the three monkeys famous for "See no evil. Speak on evil. Hear no evil" are the most well known among the carved images of Nikko and they are only one of the items created for this shrine stable. "See no evil. Speak no evil. Hear no evil." is also a childhood lesson that it's better not to see, talk about or listen to bad things.

Translation - English Mindful of the Lower House election August 2 or 9 = dissolution immediately after the Tokyo metropolitan assembly election as well – ushering out LDP (Liberal Democratic Party) executives and Prime Minister Aso
Provided at12:21 a.m. on June 29 Jiji Press
Concerning the Lower House election for the next term, Prime Minister Taro Aso took the bold step of dissolving the Lower House around the time of the Tokyo Assembly election (balloting on July 12) and began to make changes within the ruling party, with his decision to make August 2 or 9 the balloting date in mind. Up until this, within the Liberal-Democratic Party it was possible to spout theories about the Prime Minister's retirement, related to the results of the Tokyo assembly election in the “balloting on August 30”, which was important among members of the ruling party. They decided to adjust the direction with the assumption of the general election at the beginning of August, tying the retirement to the dissolution and general election, with the ranks of the administration kept unified.
Meanwhile, the direction was reached to shelve the Liberal-Democratic Party executive personnel matters before the Lower House election that the Prime Minister had been examining. Although it is because voices concerned about confusion accompanying replacement of officials were strengthened in the government and ruling party, it is also possible that the Prime Minister's power to unify will decrease further.
On the 28th, those around the Prime Minister declared "the bottom line is August 2nd or 9th" about the schedule for the Lower House election. The Prime Minister showed the possibility of determining the dissolution immediately after that as well, if the ruling party secured a majority in the Tokyo assembly election.
Moreover, LDP committee chairman, Tadamori Oshima, lectured in Hachinohe City in Aomori Prefecture on the 28th and said 「Before I go to the summit (summit July 8 - 10) or after I return, the Prime Minister's decision between two alternatives is likely to be carried out in the not too distant future. 」, showing an expectation that the general election would end up at the beginning of August.
"Dissolution within the week is the only option." = Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) and Mr. Ozawa.
Provided by Jiji Press June 28, 9:08 p.m.
Acting leader of the Democratic Party of Japan, Ichiro Ozawa, gave a greeting on the 28th at a meeting held in Hiroshima City and showed the expectation that "There are no alternatives for Prime Minister Taro Aso other than dissolution by the end of this week, in terms of the common sense of the average politician", with regard to the timing of the Lower House dissolution and the general election. In addition, he stated "As expected, with readiness in our mindset (summoning it) that the election has to be at the beginning of August, we must do everything in our power to get ready", simply showing the assumption of balloting on August 2 or 9 and the view of accelerating election preparations.

As part of the basic materials industry, the Toray Group is providing products to a wide range of sectors and we are advancing our major objective of Aiming to Become the Top Industrial Firm in the World with Advanced Materials, which is part of our long-term corporate vision, “Action Program (AP)-Innovation TORAY 21”, introduced in April of 2006. We will also continue to be committed to the fundamental idea of taking up the challenge of a new leap forward by “Innovation (progress and creativity)”, expanding our technology as our base and aiming to be a corporate group that grows globally.
Meanwhile, the world economy has been rapidly declining since the second half of 2008, and it is expected that the harsh economic conditions will continue for the foreseeable future. We think that the pressing, top-priority issue for our group is our effort toward drastic earnings improvement and a medium/long-term growth strategy for business survival, in response to sudden changes in this sort of business environment.
So, the new medium-term management task "Project IT-II (Innovation TORAY II)" was started this April to get beyond the current economic crisis. Along with improvement of our earnings starting with the strengthening of our total cost competitiveness and efforts toward further business restructuring, we will implement a growth strategy with new dimensions that provide solutions in response to constraints to future economic growth that have become obvious, such as "the environment", "resources and energy", and "a declining birthrate and an aging population".
While our company continually carries out the corporate social responsibilities (CSR) of an enterprise suitable for the 21st century, such as making "safety, disaster prevention and environmental protection" and "corporate ethics and legal compliance" top managerial priorities, and actively working on the attainment of a recycling society for the improvement of the global environment, our view is that we would like to accomplish dynamic development and to continue to be a business group whose existence has a high value for all of our stakeholders.
We hope that everyone will have a greater understanding of the Toray group by means of this homepage.
