Hello. This is from a description of some abstract paintings of cities. I sense that "rastro" and "gesto" are both something specific in art. Is this the case?

Here's the sentence:

"El dibujo asoma su primacía hasta ser acosado por barreras de color, mientras el gesto, el rastro, el detalle van imponiendo su ley sobre la libertad abstracta de estas cuatro fecundas vías que nos trasladan en el tiempo."

rastro can be "streak" but "stroke" sounds better for paintings...

gesture

Sé que parece raro tanto en inglés como en español, pero incluso hay una tendencia llamada Gesture painting/art, gestualismo y cuya definición es el arte gestual es "Gesture art refers to an illustration drawn quickly, in a gesture" (http://www.gestureart.com/), (http://www.art.net/~rebecca/LifeDrawing1.html). Y rastro lo diferenciaría como trace (stroke es pincelada que puede ser pequeña detallada o una sola amplia que crea toda una figura y se acerca al arte gestual.
