oncology/pleural effusion
A write up of an angiothoracic CT on a patient with suspected mesothelioma, who has had several pleural effusions:
En la exploracion actual se aprecia marcado engrosamiento nodular generalizado de la pleura de hemitorax derecho con compresion del parenquima y presencia de derrame y encapsulados basales.
I have drawn a blank on this phrase.
Thanks

(both free and) encapsulated pleural fluid
I think it is both types of effusion. Bad Spanish, though. A radiologist could tell which possibility is right, if you were to xhow him/her the films.

Comment: "This was difficult to decide, as I have nothing other than written reports to go on (no x-rays). Given that no-where else in the other reports does it mention lesions or nodules, I decided to go for this option, although it was tempting to put simply "encapsulations", as Isabelle suggested, and leave it slightly ambiguous. Thanks for all the comments."

encapsulated basal layers
I think, it´s describing the layers of the affected tissues.
mesothelioma (meso·the·li·o·ma) (mez”o-the”le-o´mə) a tumor derived from mesothelial tissue (peritoneum, pleura, pericardium); both benign and malignant varieties exist. Malignant varieties are often the result of excessive exposure to asbestos.
benign fibrous m. a localized tumor of the pleura, firm and encapsulated and sometimes vascular; size ranges from small to enormous. It has not been linked to asbestos exposure. Called also localized fibrous m.
