i come across all these amenities and i-m just now wondering does rooftop only mean
- sur la terrasse de toit
OR can it also be
- au dernier étage (but inside)
Meaning we don-t have any sure way of translating it into French if we can't see the building.

: Yes, all very well — but 'rooftop' in itself doesn't NECESSARILY imply also 'panoramic' — it could be 'rooftop' with a view of the gasworks! Creative, but over-interpretation

Comment: "best help goes to MElzie AND TONY since the only one noticing (and confirming actually) that not all of these are "sur le toit" and/or "panoramique", a rooftop bar/restaurant" could be a "bar / restau panoramique" at the top floor or "un bar en terrasse sur le toit".
So entry in the glossary, just look for the context and then it"s all "système D" to find the right answer"

No, normally 'rooftop' would ONLY mean 'actually on the roof' — otherwise, if it just meant 'top floor', it would be more likely referred to as 'penthouse'
The only exception might perhaps be if it was something that clearly couldn't be outdoors, or if it was a whole big something, like 'a rooftop hotel', in which case the implication would be that it occupied the top floor(s) of a tall building.

je traduis des guides de voyage et rencontre très souvent ce type d'architecture, et je mets le plus souvent "sur le toit", tout simplement.

"jardin suspendu" est extremement courant pour désigner les jardins sur toit...En revanche, "bar suspendu" l'est beaucoup moins, d'où mon niveau de confiance. On trouve tout de même quelques occurences:

: No, many of these things might well be 'suspended' in EN, but that is not = to 'rooftop' / yes, but 'garden' is a special case; a 'suspended bar / pool' wouldn't be the same thing at all, EVEN in FR!

je vous assure Tony je parle du mot "suspendu" en FR pas en EN; un "jardin suspendu" est un jardin sur le toit; comme précisé dans la réponse, je ne sais si c'est vraiment applicable à un bar : en tout cas, il existe des occurences
