Spanish term

eje del Arco Mediterráneo

Spanish to English Other Ships, Sailing, Maritime Sailing Events
"eje" and "arco" both giving me problems here... the latter may be "basin" ...?

axis of the Mediterreanean arc

It's "arc", apparently. I also tend to favour "basin" but it seems the concept does not include the south. (There are north-south programs for the basin, though).

In the 1980s according to first ref., this axis was Italy, Spain and Portugal.

The second link I gave seems to have been truncated here, but the article was interesting. I'll try pasting it again: http://www.caixacatalunya.es/CDA/caixacat/redirect.html?link...

Note that I've found the term in so many real estate texts that "no tienen nada que ver" with the Mediterranean alliance. Apparently, just a business buzzword.
Note from asker:
Basin refers to the whole Med area, but my text is about Spain only.

Mediterranean Arch is probably the "correct" term, but this seems to be a text for tourists. In my opinion, it is better to make the translation somewhat less literal, which is why I prefer "seaboard".
