Sabayon / Zabaglione

Though this is more a dessert than a drink, it is quite liquid and contains alcohol - could this be it? I think you could drink it. There is a French (Sabayon) and an Italian (Zabaglinoe) version, and I've only ever heard/seen these names used in the UK.

It's actually not a liqueur, but rather a dessert made from liqueur - but it could be what you are looking for. Perhaps in this context they're referring to a prepared product called "zabaglione" consisting of liqueur and the other ingredients.

Zabaione (written also Zabajone... or Zabaglione ...) is an Italian dessert made with egg yolks, sugar, a sweet liquor (usually Marsala wine), and sometimes one of cream, mascarpone, or whole eggs. It is a very light custard, which has been whipped to incorporate a large amount of air. Zabaglione is traditionally served with fresh figs... In Colombia, it's known as ***sabajón***. In Venezuela, a related egg-based dessert drink is called ponche de crema.

Yes, I see your point now. When I hear "zabaglione" I think of a custardy dessert - while, as you point out, "sabajón" is a drink, not a dessert.

egg liqueur

my guess is that this is probably what they mean, since this is about drinks rather than desserts. Both the drink and the dessert are based on egg yolks, so that would explain the "borrowing" of the culinary term.

As well as the most well known of egg liqueurs (advocaat), there are of course other lesser known ones (believe it or not!)
