Portuguese term

(ass.)

Portuguese to English Law/Patents Law (general) Birth Certificate
I have got another one.

I came across the following abbreviation in a birth certificate from Mozambique. While I understand what the rest mean, I am stuck at (ass.). What does it represent?

(ass.) Impostos do selo tres escudos. (ass.)
Proposed translations (English)
3 +6 signed, signature

juanfarrugia (asker) Feb 4, 2009:
I noticed that the abbreviation (ass.) appeared twice, both immediately after the word escudos (the local currency). Such as "...treze escudos. (ass.) Impostos de selo tres escudos. (ass.)

I'm only guessing, but in Brazilian documents and certificates the abbreviation "ass." may stand for "signature", i.e., it indicates that someone signed or should sign in the place where the the abbreviation is located in the document. Sometimes it appears as (ass.), sometimes as [ass.].

Good luck!

In this case, the official may have placed his signature on both the left and the right of the tax stamp (to validate it).
