Los aguapés, camalotes, jacintos de agua o taruyas (Eichhornia spp.) son un género de siete especies de plantas perennes flotantes oriundas de las regiones tropicales de Sudamérica. Flotan sostenidas por esponjosos rizomas, con las raíces flotando libremente. En zonas de aguas estancadas, como los correntinos Esteros del Iberá, pueden entrelazarse formando embalsados, auténticas islas flotantes sobre las que crece otra vegetación y que sirven de hábitat a numerosas especies animales.

Might it be the type of water lily known as 'aguapey', and sometimes 'lirio de agua'? Very common here, but I know there are several species. I believe they have become invasive in waterways in the southeast of the USA, so there might be something similar in mangrove areas

a northern Atlantic fish ... I initially thought this was the right answer, but this is what I found when I did my research: The blue whiting, Micromesistius poutassou, is a cod of the genus Micromesistius, common in the North-East Atlantic ocean, from Morocco to Iceland and Spitsbergen. Blue whiting also occur in the North-West Atlantic ocean between Canada and Greenland.
