Discussion

Luis Rey Ballesteros (Luiroi) (asker) Apr 3, 2010:
I meant to choose Muriel's but pushed the wrong button. However, David's is very helpful too, as usual. Ancestry, bloodline, heritage, very good options indeed. Sorry but I had to clarify this. I thank you all for your valuable and helpful support. There should be a way to split points in cases like this.

defend their tribal identity / tribal integrity

Although you may not want to use "identity" twice in the same sentence I think it is the best word as "defend the tribe" and "defend the existence of the tribe" sound prtty goofy. "Defend tribal integrity" might work. Sorry to get here so late!

Personally, I prefer "to strongly defend their own". "Kind" is optional.

to safeguard their heritage

I'd avoid anything connoting "race". If the client is an international organization, a development-oriented NGO or something similar, the chances are high that they'll strike it out (in my experience).

Best of luck.
