Hello. This is from the list of ingredients for some kind of cake manufactured in Spain (of the type that comes in packets, full of E-numbers):

@ Liz No I didn't; I don't think it's a standard expression. I have queried the client but, since the ingredients include milk powder, I am almost certain that they are saying that the vegetable fat derives from this. Thanks for your input!

Yes, I saw that website - you could be right. I just don't understand why the brackets come after vegetable fat- unless they extracted the vegetable fat from a vegetable fat-supplemented milk powder to put in the cake! :)

Sorry Should have researched this a bit further before posting. I'm translating it as 'contained in milk', having found numerous examples on the Web about milk powder made with vegetable fat and used in the baking industry. Thanks everyone for your help!

it might be to do with the fact that vegetable oil is lactose-free and suitable for people with intolerences??

milk supplement? The only thing I can think of is that it is some kind of milk supplement - the fact that it is in brackets after vegetable fat suggests that it is either a type of vegetable fat or that the vegetable fat is also supplemented with milk or something like that. However, as I am not sure, I´m just putting this idea out there to be discussed! Good luck with it! Kate

Vegetable Fat Milk Powder

I think one needs to translate the full expression "grasa vegetal (soporte leche)". This is a Vegetable Fat-filled Milk Powder - they are commonly used as cheap milk replacers.

I'm sure it is NOT suero/whey.
