Russian term

редактор по хронике

Russian to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama Job function in credits
What does this person do in a Russian documentary film, for example, and what is it called in English? For some reason "timeline control" popped into my head, but I don't find many Internet matches for it. I suppose one could write "chronology editor," but that doesn't sound like an English movie term to me.

content manager?

certainly not "editor". editor = монтажер.

Хроника = кинохроника = documentary --- по хроникЕ
Note from asker:
Sorry for the typo or brain lapse in the question.
Now I found a job description in Russian - "Обязанности: поиск, отсмотр хроники, доп. видеоматериалов из всевозможных источников, приобретение материалов из новостных архивов"; and I think editor is OK, because it's clearly not a film editor. Something like "documentary content editor." Thanks for getting me off my unfounded notion that this had something to do with time.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "The film is a documentary w. editors for various aspects, so I used "documentary content editor." The film is almost all interviews, making the more general "content" more appropriate than newsreel, archive, etc."

Here's a quote I found in a posting from the entertainment industry job website talanty.su (the vacancy isn't there any more, it seems, this only pops up in search results):
На документальный цикл требуется редактор по хронике. Обязанности: поиск, отсмотр хроники, доп. видеоматериалов из всевозможных источников, приобретение материалов из новостных архивов...

film archivist/archival producer

This is the job title in documentary film in English. It's unclear to me, without context, whether the OP's term is for a person is involved in the actual editing, which would give them the title "editor". Generally film archivists/archival producers do the research, and pass the results along to the editing team, and the editors do the actual "editing".

"Documentary content editor" is definitely not a term used in documentary!
Example sentence:

Kenn Rabin has served as producer, consultant, writer and archivist on more than a hundred films, including the documentaries Vietnam: A Television History, Eyes on the Prize,

I have a great deal of Archival experience as a Researcher, Archival Producer, Clearance Person and as a Producer on projects I'm producing - mainly on features docs and series.
