Bonjour comment traduiriez-vous "première ES" ?

Je traduis des relevés de notes, de première et terminale.

Discussion

@Katsy & Nikki There's no straight answer in the glossary but there are separate translations for "ES" & "première".
katsy Apr 8, 2013:
@ Nikki Exactly what I thought, but I can't find anything in the glossary so far...
Nikki Scott-Despaigne Apr 8, 2013:
This came up a month or two ago The Glossary no doubt contains a number of entries.
Victoria Britten Apr 8, 2013:
ES Presumably you have already decided how you're going to translate "première"; ES is economic/social.
EA Traduction (asker) Apr 8, 2013:
UK sorry
Translation will rather depend on who your target audience is. UK? US? Other?

Première ES (Year 12 - leading to Baccalauréat ES "Economics and Social Sciences")

you have to mention "Baccalauréat", not just assume that the reader will know about it.
Peer comment(s):

agree Jane Proctor (X) : Yep.. "French Baccalauréat..." to differentiate from the int'l one. (my daughter's down for this next year:) ))

Peer comment(s):

neutral Catharine Cellier-Smart : 11th grade refers to the US school system; Asker has stated that this is for the UK.

Première Economique et Sociale (Year 12 - main subject, economics and social sciences)

Première in France is equivalent to year 12 (previously, lower-sixth) in England and Wales
See for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Education_in_England
Like pooja_chic, I'd leave the original title in French with an explanation in brackets
Peer comment(s):

agree Yvonne Gallagher : yes, for UK. I'd probably say main STREAM rather than subject

Thanks gallagy2 :-) Not sure about "stream" which has connotations of "groupes de niveau" not present in the source text. And Econ. and SS are the major subjects...
neutral Clarissa Hull : May not be quite clear to people unfamiliar with the French system. Also agree with gallagy2 about 'stream'

On reflection, agree that Daryo's suggestion wd be clearer. Still don't understand the 'streaming' business. When I did A Levels (many yrs ago!) we were not "streamed"; just those doing sciences, languages etc. Maybe it's different now! But majority wins!

It will very much depend on how much your readership knows about the French system...
