writeaway Apr 17, 2013:
@Isabelle O'Neill Merci!
Isabelle Barth-O'Neill (asker) Apr 17, 2013:
@ writeaway il s'agit de la personne qui s'occupe des enfants et les occupe dans le lieu où ils sont surveillés
Pour le texte que j'ai. Car animateur a plein d'autres sens - principalement ce que cchat donne plus bas en parlant du BAFA.
writeaway Apr 16, 2013:
Perhaps it would be helpful if Asker would explain (en français) the specific meaning it has in French
Isabelle Barth-O'Neill (asker) Apr 16, 2013:
@ Sheila Rien ne m'a été proposé avant que je poste ma question.
C'est un terme que je trouve d'ailleurs assez difficile à traduire - Il a un sens tellement spécifique en français.
writeaway Apr 16, 2013:
With Sheila This term has been asked quite a lot and the glossary should have suitable solutions
cchat Apr 16, 2013:
@BD Finch The same thought had occurred to me. It could mean something like "stakeholders", or "local partners".

Glossaire? Avez-vous cherché dans le glossaire avant de poser la question? C'est là, et maintes fois, je crois.

child care providers/professionals/workers

Animateur seems to be a rather general term, think these options cover it.
Peer comment(s):

neutral cchat : The traditional meaning for the French "animateur" (as in BAFA) is more like "youth group leader" or "children's activity leader" or "playgroup leader". But the rest of the sentence doesn't really fit that meaning.

I originally gave playgroup leader as an answer, but realised it didn't really work here given the phrase "Mauvaise connaissance des animateurs locaux de l’importance du jeu dans le développement des enfants"
agree Sheila Wilson : I agree that cchat's list may not be appropriate here. I imagine that's why you are porposing a different, IMO correct, translation

Thanks Sheila!
agree Nikki Scott-Despaigne : "Animateur" is being used with an unusually wider meaning here. It is referring perhaps to the providers and maybe even the workers (the latter being the more usual meaning). However, I like "professionals" here as it covers providers and workers.

Thanks Nikki
agree B D Finch : Given the information the Asker gives in her comment to my answer, I'd now go with "child-care workers".

Thanks!
agree Bashiqa : 'Animateur' often has me scratching my head. Child-care worker looks fine.

organisers/facilitators

Reading your text, I wondered whether this could refer to local politicians and government officials as much as to childcare workers.
Note from asker:
No - it is really the people who are active with the children - but have no training such as the one we have in Western countries
Peer comment(s):

agree Jean-Claude Gouin : FACILITATORS ... but has nothing to do with politicians or government officials ...

Thanks. Yes, it would have been useful to have had that information from the start.
agree kashew : For organisers (of educational activities)

Thanks kashew. But note that the emphasis is on play, rather than formal education.
agree Ana Verona : facilitators
