Discussion

Daryo Oct 26, 2013:
J'ai vu que dans le glossaire "land reclamation" signifie polder.

I would suggest you put that glossary in the dunce corner and leave it there; or use it with extreme caution.
It’s a problem common to many glossaries - a term that is perfectly valid in a specific limited context is often presented as "one-fit-all" translation potentially leading to some really comic effects like Monaco extending its territory or Hong Kong building its airport on polders or London considering to build a new airport on polders(?) in the Thames Estuary.
Tony M Oct 25, 2013:
@ Asker 'polder' is really the reclaimed land itself, not the action of doing it.

Elena Radkova Oct 25, 2013:
@asker: Pourquoi pas "polders"tout court?
Sinon, vous pourriez penser à étendues d'eau aussi.
Elena Radkova Oct 25, 2013:
Plans d'eau, oui.
Gleyse (asker) Oct 25, 2013:
plans d'eau, est-il correct ?

polders

Je propose une traduction plus courte:
... ou par la création de polders.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Jean-Claude Gouin : Un polder est une étendue de terre gagnée sur l'eau ... mais pas une étendue d'eau ...

neutral Tony M : With 1045 — here, we're talking about the body of water that might become a 'polder' (which term describes a piece of land)..
1 hr
disagree Daryo : also, polders are below the surrounding water level // Hong Kong airport is on a man-made island , above sea level
