There is nothing wrong with using the direct translation of artesanal, which is artisanal (i.e. this is the adjective according to the New Shorter Oxford English Dictionary):


Artisanal Cheese
Artisanal cheeses are handmade, not bulk manufactured. They are made by the cheese maker from start to finish with little or no mechanization, without an assembly line. They can be both large and small, as some larger companies still make all their cheese by hand. (1st ref)

From the family of the distinctive tasting Bethmale cheese. This is a very savoury semi-hard cheese with a golden slightly moist pate, and a rich pinky brown rough biscuit-like crust. Although usually \"artesanal\" is \"handicraft,\" in this particular context \"crafted\" sounds much better to me.

I think we tend to talk about dry, semi-dry and bland cheeses. Just my opinion.
