PhD student internal examiner
Looking at Jane's reference and then at another couple of universitites prescriptions for PhD studies in Sweden, it seems that normally there is one (or more) supervisors (handledare) and then one examiner from within the faculty or department (examinator). The latter has responsibility for making sure that the student's programme is going to satisfy formal requirements for doktorsexamen.

: This is the first time ever I have disagreed with Sven. Bu I think Agneta is right - an internal examiner, who must not be a supervisor. Sorry Sven!

PhD student supervisor
Another alternative - "Research student" is correct, but I always think of a doktorand as specifically a PhD student.

Don't know if this is an agree with Agneta or worth a separate answer. (For you to say.) But here is a reference that indicates your Swe term does not refer to supervisor (http://fy.chalmers.se/~tfkhj/GraduateSchool/Forskarutbildnin... where you find the statement "Examinator, huvudhandledare och biträdande handledare (av vilka två ej får vara samma person) utses av prefekt. På rekommendation från fakultetsnämnden bör samma person ej samtidigt vara examinator och huvudhandledare till en doktorand." (Sec. 8.3) Here, I see handledare = supervisor.
The reference below indicates the usage 'research degree examiner'. 'Doctoral examiner' gives you a lot of hits as does 'PhD' and 'research degree examiner'. I basically question Agneta's use of 'internal', but that may be correct depending on your context.
