English term or phrase: mechanism of action and resistance biomarkers
Hello!

This is from a clinical study, and I have trouble understanding parts of the sentence, might be a typo but client wouldn't respond...

Tumor biopsy will be performed at the time of the first restaging and/or at the time of progression in an optional first and/or second substudy to investigate pharmacodynamics, *mechanism of action and resistance biomarkers*.

Earlier it says:
Tumor biopsy will be performed at the time of the first restaging in an optional substudy to investigate *pharmacodynamic and mechanism of action biomarkers.*

Is here simply an "of" missing?

Thank you!
LindsayBell

mechanism of action and [mechanism of] resistance biomarkers

Explanation:
Biomarker a naturally occurring molecule, gene, or characteristic by which a particular pathological or physiological process, disease, etc. can be identified.

The statement should be read as: "mechanism of action and [mechanism of] resistance biomarkers." THis is similar to the earlier text, "mechanism of action biomarkers."

I do not think there is an "of" missing. Seems okay to me.

mechanism of action and resistance biomarkers

Explanation:
The substudy will investigate three issues:
- pharmacodynamics (of the study drug in question) -
- mechanism of action (of the study drug in question)
- biomarkers of resistance (to the study drug in question)

personally, I think the text is poorly written

If I were you I would find a good bona fide English article on the subject and compare.
