Russian term or phrase: Лобастый
I don't think such a word exists in English, but perhaps there is something similar?

Full sentence: И вновь Лобастый уверенно повел нас вперед, величественно ступая мощными лапами по травяному настилу.

High-Brow
Explanation:
To say "high-browed" gives it a slightly archaic literary flair. As a name, better without the -ed ending. Keep the hyphen, so it's less similar to "highbrow" in the sense of snobbish.

Now that you've revealed he's a wolf, one wants to think of a name with a pun in it in English, but none comes to mind right away. Will keep thinking. Meanwhile, his being a wolf doesn't make me want to abandon this suggestion. Wolves, and highly intelligent wolf-related dogs like the one who lives with us, definitely have a brow. I don't think I can put a picture within this note, but maybe I'll temporarily take the little bear off duty in my profile photo and put my high-browed dog there for a few hours.

By the way, there are lots of lists of literary wolf names available.

http://www.20000-names.com/wolf_names.htm - This list suggests a couple of names that could be used as base-words. For example, "Silver" has been used for wolves in literature. You could make it "Silver-Bright," with "bright" denoting intelligence. Or "Sky" could become "Sky-Wolf," denoting the height of a high brow.

Sofia, the bear has returned to my profile photo. If you would like to look at the high forehead (brow) of my wolf-dog again, please let me know.

Thank you for your suggestion! I ended up going with Lobo in the end, but this would have been my second choice.

agree  The Misha: Sure, you need a soundbite here, something that would come through as a name, which this one does. It's hard to say though without reading the entire text.

agree  Jurate Kazlauskaite: This sounds quite natural in a story. "Lobo" has a medical connotation.

-> Thanks, Jurate. I don't know of any medical connocation of "Lobo," though. Do you mean because of the word "lobotomy"? I don't think that would jump into too many readers' minds.
