I don't think it can be the star that "ella" is referring to, as the only reference to the stars in the extract is in plural; there is no mention of a single star, as far as I can see.

There may be something else outside this given context that clarifies what "ella" may be referring to. Otherwise, it has to be either the chair or her loneliness.

It may well be that "ella" refers to "la soledad", but the reason why I think it is more likely to refer to the chair is that this seems to be the "protagonist" in the whole extract:

It is where she would sit to look at the stars;
Kito would curl up beneath it (giving the impression that the child felt protected by the chair);
it is the chair where her husband used to sit;
it is where she would sit to accompany her loneliness (because it is where her husband used to sit).
