I have found 'murder hole' and 'arrow slit'. Could it be any of them?
I also found on another ProZ topic, 'embrasures' and 'crenels', but from my research, these seem to be a different thing called 'Abertas' (which are also in the text).

Embrasures. " An " embrasure " is an opening made in the parapet for a gun to fire through. The names of its parts are the " sole," the " sill," the "cheeks," the "Deck," and the "mouth."
