Qual seria a melhor expressão para traduzir "olhar para __________ como boi para um palácio” em inglês?
Significa olhar para alguma coisa sem dar valor ou importância alguma. No ciberdúvidas da língua portuguesa:
«os pobres ignorantes olhavam para os objectos expostos como boi para palácio», isto é, não davam apreço a, não ligavam importância, sem interesse algum.
O contexto em que ela será usada (por uma amiga) é um artigo para uma conferencia sobre "autonomia urbana e a cidade colectiva”, que fala sobre as transformações recentes da cidade do Porto (o turismo, as lojas gourmet, a privatizaçao do espaço público, etc).
A frase completa é: "é como se nós, habitantes, olhássemos agora para a cidade como um boi olha para um palácio, porque já não nos reconhecemos nela". A metáfora ganha força se virmos que o que motivou esta reflexão foi a decisão da câmara municipal vender um palácio histórico em hasta pública.
