Уважаемые коллеги, может ли кто подсказать?

Из письма старца Амвросия Оптинского.

"Покойный наш о. архимандрит Моисей ... обыкновенно говаривал в ответ на вопросы, подобные твоим: 'как уж дело там покажет'. Иное дело предполагать, иное - видеть на самом деле."

Хотел перевести как We'll cross that bridge when we come to it." Но там значение такое: думать будем об этом потом. А тут имеется ввиду, что дело может оказаться совсем другим, чем мы представляем. Есть аналоги на английском, или предложения своего варианта? Заранее очень признателен!
