Spanish term

glucosa xxx mg/dL Alto(a)

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) Discharge report
Hi All,

This is probably straightforward, especially if you've come across it before, but I can't be sure what it is so I'd appreciate your help.

Discharge report for a patient who has/will receive a TAVI (transcatheter aortic valve implantation).
In "Summary of Complementary Tests", it starts with the following:

"Laboratorio (ultimas 48 horas)
Glucosa.: 128 mg/dL Alto(a) Glucosa.: 145 mg/dL Alto(a) Glucosa.: 175 mg/dL Alto(a) Urea:......."

Later it in the CBC it has:
"Hematies: 3.03 Bajo(a) Hematies: 3.47 Bajo(a) Hematies: 3.46 Bajo(a) Hemoglobina: 8.4 g/dL Bajo(a) Hemoglobina: 9.5 g/dL Bajo(a) Hemoglobina: 9.6 g/dL Bajo(a)....."

I wouldn't consider a glucose level of 128 to be high (it's pretty ideal). Nor do I suppose it refers to "at admission" because there are 3 values.... they can't all be at admission. Any help appreciated.

New tester allow the patient to know whether their blood sugar is rising or not. "Alto(a)" may refer to a rise in the blood sugar, not a "high" blood sugar.

Agree with David... I usually see asterisks or H or L, or plus and minus signs. They automatically indicate if something is outside the reference range; then the doctor can look at the results and decide if it's really a clinically significant problem for the individual.

lab reports The glucoses are all outside the reference range. Some labs put one or two up arrows or low arrows depending on how far outside the range it is.,.In this case they've used words

Not being a doc, I wouldn't like to comment. I just tend to stick to the script.

Are these fasting levels (which one would expect to be lower)?
