Discussion

Tony M Oct 9, 2016:
@ Debora Quite!

Except that, to my mind, the key to this place is 'Department' — and in my admittedly limited experience, those are usually referred to as 'service' in FR, rather than 'secteur', aren't they?
Debora Blake Oct 9, 2016:
Place not person "OPD" se réfère à l'endroit où on voit le patient qui a été libéré assis sur un lit. Le lit se trouve donc dans le secteur ambulatoire. Ai-je loupé quelque chose ?
orgogozo (asker) Oct 7, 2016:
OK Une réponse liz ?
Rasha A. Oct 7, 2016:
Patient externe, je suis d'accord avec Liz :)
liz askew Oct 7, 2016:
Usually, OPD - Outpatient Department

"Consultations et soins externes" comes up on quite a lot of hospital sites here in France.

Quite by chance, Asker, I happened across this earlier KudoZ:

...which you would have found for yourself had you done a term search!

Merci, PLR ! Oui, en effet!
neutral Drmanu49 : Not sure after being discharged?

Yes, exactly that: following discharge, you come back for a check-up etc. as an outpatient. It's where I've had to go to after my operations.
agree liz askew : The patient is actually waiting/in the OPD
2 hrs
Thanks, Liz! Yes, it's the actual name of the physical place needed here, don't you think?
agree Rasha A.

patient ambulatoire

OP, dans ce contexte outpatient.

Assis sur un lit, alors je dirais plutôt ambulatoire (en mesure de se déplacer entre son domicile et l'hôpital pour y subir un traitement ou un contrôle)

disagree Debora Blake : OPD refers to WHERE the patient is, not the patient him/herself.

A "patient ambulatoire" is a persons who receives ambulatory care at an outpatient department (un service de soins ambulatoires)
neutral Tony M : As Debora says, this is about the department they're in.

Precisely this is after discharge Tony. soins de suite et de réadaptation (SSR) is probably better.

secteur ambulatoire

Regardless of the person sitting on the bed, OPD is referring to the location of that bed. And it's in the secteur ambulatoire ;-)
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : Whilst I agree this is referring to a physical place, I remain dubious about 'secteur, which I think of as covering a wider notion (cf. 'private sector') and can honestly say I have never seen in any of the FR hospitals I've ever been in.
1 day 19 hrs
Actually, France Info had a guest on this morning talking about hospital related thing and used the word "secteur" to describe a section/zone inside the hospital.
